Special Admissions Program for Active Duty and Veterans in the U.S. Armed Forces

Special Admissions Program (SAP) is accepting applications from Active Duty and Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for incoming freshmen and transfer students for undergraduate programs at California State Universities. SAP is open to all honorably discharging Active Duty Regular, Reserve, and Marine Veterans who meet the eligibility requirements.

SAP offers Marines and Marine Veterans seats at selected California State Universities campuses. For 2010, these campus are: Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Chico, Dominguez Hills, East Bay, Fullerton, Humboldt, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Maritime Academy, Northridge, Pomona, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Jose, San Marcos, Sonoma, and Stanislaus. Applicants accepted for the SAP will commence school during Fall Semester 2010.

Applications must reach the Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations West no later than December 10, 2009.

Eligibility requirements include:

  1. Status. Marines who have earned or are eligible for an honorable discharge and have no remaining active duty service obligation and are California residents or marines planning to reside in California after leaving the service.
  2. Education: high school graduate. High school equivalencies, such as the GED, will not be considered for the 2010/2011 academic year. Current holders of undergraduate degrees or those seeking advanced degrees do not qualify for this program.
  3. Classification Testing. Applicants must possess a minimum combined score of 74 or higher on their AFQT and a GT score of 115 or higher, or a minimum combined math and critical reading score of 1000 or higher on the SAT, or a minimum composite score of 22 on the ACT to be eligible to apply.
  4. Tuition and Fees. The payment of tuition and all other academic fees are the responsibility of each participant. The use of in-service GI Bill education benefits, grants, and student loans are encouraged. The Marine Corps Tuition Assistance Program cannot be used.
  5. The SAP is not affiliated with any other Marine Corps Education Program. Accordingly, applicants do not incur any additional obligated service by being accepted to this program and attendance at the designated California State Universities campuses.

The USMC has a total seat allocation of 29. Commanding officers will convene a board to screen each application to evaluate the applicant’s potential for successful completion of college and select the 29 best qualified applicants.
